Diagonal Diary: Classical music, a new website, and lunch with Otmar
Mon 22 April: It’s race week! Excitement is building as Diagonal Comms client The British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) prepares for its opening round at Donington Park this weekend. The first race week of the season is off to a flying start today when our digital media team sets the brand-new BTCC website live. As part of the Championship’s new-for-2024 media and broadcasting strategy – including the recent announcement that the BTCC will be streamed live across the globe via TikTok – the new website is another major part of this ongoing and improved approach.
Another of our clients is also gearing up for a race weekend – 18-year-old Australian racing driver Patrick Heuzenroeder will continue his maiden GB3 Championship campaign at Silverstone. In an interview published in The Australian today, Pat – alongside his mentor David Brabham – discusses classical music, cricket, his beloved Kelpie dog, the importance of family, and the sacrifices he and they have made in pursuit of his motor racing dream.
Tue 23 April: A day of media interviews for our client, Prodrive – the world-leading motorsport and advanced technology business celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Prodrive chairman, David Richards CBE, welcomes journalists from top-tier media outlets to the company’s Banbury HQ and you’ll be able to read their interviews with him soon! Meanwhile, we work with Prodrive’s in-house comms team to schedule more media interviews and tours
of the company’s incredible factory for the coming weeks.
Diagonal MD Matt Bishop’s latest MotorSport column is published. Fifty years on, Matt recounts the remarkable 1974 Spanish Grand Prix and a first Formula 1 victory for Niki Lauda.
Wed 24 April: The Asetek team visits Diagonal’s City of London offices for a planning meeting. Top of the agenda is an exciting event we are planning in the build-up to this summer’s Formula 1 British Grand Prix. It promises to be the golden ticket…
Thu 25 April: After a busy morning of meetings with potential clients, we’ve earned our lunch! And what a lovely lunch it is. Hosted by our client EventR – the app designed by a team of software developers led by former Formula 1 team principal, Otmar Szafnauer, to simplify team travel – invited media guests join Otmar and our MD, Matt Bishop, at a London restaurant to talk all things Formula 1 and, of course, EventR. Keep your eyes peeled for those Otmar interviews!
Fri 26 April: The schedule is set, the social media graphics are ready, and Team Diagonal (including videographers, photographers, and content creators) is on its way to Donington Park for round one of the BTCC season. Watch the action live on ITV and, for the first time ever, TikTok. Lights out, here we go!
